How do I know if I have an Electric Shower?

Electric showers only take water from the cold mains supply. They heat the water when you turn the shower on, the water passes over an element inside the shower, similar to a kettle.

What to look for in your bathroom or shower room:

  • Pull cord switch, which when on should display a red tag or light – this is located in the same room as the shower and positioned such that it cannot be reached from the shower
  • Push button On/Off or Start/Stop on the shower unit
  • Flow/temperature controls on the shower unit

If you have a hot water cylinder (generally in an airing cupboard) and two pipes running from the shower, then your shower is probably not electric.

If you have a shower pump, then you have a power shower not an electric one.

If you are still unsure then contact us with the make and model of your shower and we will check for you. Otherwise, seek professional help.
